Program Length
How long does it take to complete a program?
It depends on the pace you set for yourself. Most Professional Certificate
Programs take from one to two years, but accelerated versions are often available.
Professional Sequence Awards are generally earned within three quarters or
less.
Enrolling in Individual Courses
You may take individual courses without enrolling in the entire program,
as long as you meet any course prerequisites. Please check for Prerequisite
headings underneath each course description.
When to Apply
We recommend that you apply for candidacy anytime before you complete
your third course. Applying for candidacy locks you into the current
program requirements and establishes a record for you in the Student
Services Office.

Three Easy Steps to Earn Your Certificate
- Complete an "Application For Candidacy Form" for the certificate
program that you would like to pursue and submit with the application
fee. Application forms are available on the individual certificate
and award program brochures that may be accessed from the column on
the right side of this page or
by calling (805) 893-3351.
- Enroll in certificate courses offered each quarter. Review the current
catalog or visit www.extension.ucsb.edu/catalog to
determine upcoming course offerings. Complete all required courses
and any chosen electives with a letter grade of C or better. Depending
on the program, you will have between three to five years to complete
it.
- Notify the UCSB Extension certificate advisor by e-mailing certificates@els.ucsb.edu or
by phoning (805) 893-3231 when you receive the grade for
your final course. Once your final grade is received and your records
are checked to verify that you have met all program requirements, your
certificate is processed and mailed to you.
