Each program (Professional Certificate Program or Professional Sequence Award) is available in three formats: Individual courses offered year round Intensive 7-week program in the summer Intensive 10-week program in the fall, winter and spring Who should attend? New or aspiring educators wishing to teach ESL in the USA or EFL overseas ESL/EFL educators who have some practical experience but little formal training ESL / EFL educators in any setting, e.g. elementary, secondary, and adult education, community colleges and universities, private language schools, private industry, volunteer organizations What will you learn? The TESOL Professional Sequence Award and Professional Certificate Program provide, specialized theoretical and practical training for teaching ESL / EFL. The TESOL programs train both new and experienced teachers to effectively utilize the most current methods, materials, research, and resources in a variety of teaching situations. In addition, the TESOL programs help trainers to develop an individualized teaching style consistent with the special requirements of the ESL/EFL classroom. The TESOL Professional Certificate Program includes two 27-hour practicum seminar courses. The practicum courses give participants the opportunity to develop lesson plans, practice teaching international students in the classroom, observe other teachers, and receive and give feedback.
Courses: Courses 1 – 6 are required for the Professional Sequence Award. 1. Introduction to TESOL and the Learning Context (9 hours) 2. Language Analysis, Awareness and Teaching Techniques for TESOL, Part A (27 hours) 3. Lesson Planning and Resources for TESOL (9 hours) 4. Teaching Language Skills for TESOL, Part A (27 hours) 5. Classroom Practicalities for TESOL (9 hours) 6. Professional Development for TESOL (9 hours) Courses 7 – 8 are practicum courses and are required in order to complete Professional Certificate Program. 7. Language Analysis, Awareness and Teaching Techniques for TESOL, Part B (27 hours) 8. Teaching Language Skills for TESOL, Part B: TESOL Teaching Practicum (27 hours) Courses 9 – 12 are recommended special interest courses. They are not required for either program. 9. Computer Assisted Language Learning (13.5 hours) 10. TESOL Through Popular Music (13.5 hours) 11. Grammar Activities for Intermediate & Advanced ESL/EFL (13.5 hours) 12. What's included? Candidates have the option of either taking the whole program intensively, or of taking a selection of courses over two or more quarters. Prerequisites: Please note that participants need at least a bachelor's degree in order to apply for candidacy for the TESOL Programs. In addition, international participants require certification of one of the following scores for each program:
Professional Certificate Program: TOEFL iBT® (Internet based) 90 IELTS ® 7.5		Professional Sequence Award: TOEFL iBT® (Internet based) 85 IELTS ® 7.0
