Dropping Courses/Withdrawal Procedures

It is your responsibility to petition to drop a course in which you are enrolled. To formally drop a course,
obtain a Petition for Withdrawal from the UCSB Extension Student Services office (or download it from www.extension.ucsb.edu/student/forms), notify the professor of your intention, and have him/her sign the petition. Requests to drop must be received at UCSB Extension no later than 4:00 p.m. on the established deadline date (see the Calendar). Courses dropped prior to this deadline will not appear on your permanent transcript record. Students who file drop petitions by the drop deadline are eligible for a full refund of their course fees.

The W grade will be assigned when a student receives permission to drop a course after the drop deadline. In order to request permission to drop a course after the drop deadline, you must submit a Petition for Withdrawal to the UCSB Extension Student Services office along with written documentation of extenuating circumstances and the required fee. The instructor must endorse dropping the course after the deadline. Exceptions to the published drop deadline are granted only in very unusual and compelling circumstances. Permission to drop after the deadline can only be granted by Extended Learning Services. Failure to formally withdraw from a course you do not wish to complete will result in the recording of an F or NP grade.
