Policy and Procedures for UCSB Employee Discounts for Extension Classes
I.
Purpose
- Employee
discounts for tuition for UCSB classes are provided to University
staff and faculty in order to encourage campus employee development
and foster closer relationships between Extension and other
UCSB campus units.
II.
Policy
- UCSB faculty and staff who are employed at least 50% time
in career positions are eligible to receive a 25% discount on
UCSB Extension courses having a published fee of less than $500
and do not contain special costs. In addition, spouses, domestic
partners (as defined by UCSB for employee benefits), parents,
and children of eligible faculty and staff may receive a 15%
discount. Certain courses may be excluded from this UCSB Employee
Discount, including Open Enrollment courses and courses
conducted in computer labs. Discount must be requested at the
time of enrollment (a copy of the Staff I.D. card must accompany
the enrollment) and will not be applied retroactively. Discounts
are applicable to one class per quarter, and are taken off the
standard course fee.
- In order to receive a discount, eligible employee must pre-enroll
and request the discount at time of enrollment. Discounts are
not retroactive.
- Employee discount may be applied to one course per quarter
and is not transferable.
- The discount is taken off the standard course fee.

III. Procedures
- Faculty and staff must provide proof of eligibilty by providing
a current UCSB staff card and a photo ID at the time of enrollment.
Eligibility is subject to verification.
- Departments paying fees through a recharge must phone UCSB
Extension to verify the applicability of the discount BEFORE
deducting 25% from the standard fee.
- Authorization to grant a discounted fee within the terms of
this policy are delegated to the Student Services Office staff
of UCSB Extension. Exceptions require programmer approval.
