Dr. Scussat is an engineering leader with over 20 years of business management experience who held positions of progressively higher responsibility in IR packaging design, Supplier Quality, Global Supply Chain Management, high volume IR manufacturing, and Project Management at the IR divisions of FLIR-Teledyne Inc., Raytheon Systems Inc., Corning and Seek Thermal Inc. He currently holds the role of Director of Supply Chain at Kyocera-SLD Laser Inc. a global leading provider of laser based high intensity illumination systems. Dr. Scussat holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, a Ph.D. in Micro Engineering from the Swiss Federal institute of Technology, an MBA from Cal State-DH and various postgraduate training from Stanford, Babson College and UCSB. During his doctorate Dr. Scussat co-invented the TRIMO-SMD which consists of an innovative and patented (US 6,554,244 and US 6,380,513) optoelectronic packaging technology to assembly optoelectronic devices (~1 mm Ø) with a submicron precision by laser soldering. This technology was the recipient of several prestigious prizes: Nortel Networks Optical Component Prize 2001, Swiss Technology Award 2003 and 2nd place at the 50th Anniversary of the Omega Foundation.

Jens-Uwe Kuhn has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC-Santa Barbara, and a Master's in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University. He has been a faculty member at Santa Barbara City College since Fall 2008, has served as the Department Chair for Chemistry, and currently serves as Dean of Educational Programs. Dr. Kuhn serves as Principal Investigator for several externally funded grant initiatives and continues to collaborate with several institutions, including UCSB, Allan Hancock College, and Cuesta College. He is driven to support faculty and staff in providing an inspiring learning environment for students using data-driven approaches.

Demis John received his Ph.D. in ultra-low-loss optical waveguides from UCSB in 2012. He then worked at Praevium Research Inc. from 2012 to 2017, where he developed semiconductor lasers for medical imaging and gas spectroscopy. He has been working at the UCSB CNSI Nanofab since 2006 and is currently the manager of the Process Group, responsible for troubleshooting processing issues and developing new fabrication procedures. He also manages remote fabrication jobs for external customers, handles website and server work, and manages user needs and overall usability in the Nanofab.

Rachel Schoeppner received her B.S. in Materials Engineering from California Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo in 2009 and her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Washington State University in 2014, while working jointly at Sandia National Laboratories researching mechanical properties of nanoscale strengthened metallic coatings. During her graduate studies, Rachel contributed to multiple international research collaborations at the Erich Schmid Institute and Empa Swiss Federal Laboratories. Rachel went on to investigate the strength and thermal stability properties of novel nanoscale coatings as a post-doctoral researcher at Empa Swiss Federal Laboratories in 2015. After returning to the United States, she continued this work at the Colorado School of Mines and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, working on high throughput testing of novel bulk metallic glass coatings. In May 2017, Rachel joined CNSI as the Nanostructures Cleanroom Facility manager. In 2018, she took on the additional responsibility of support engineer to the newly funded NSF Quantum Foundry and is now the primary manager of the joint Quantum Structures Facility. Rachel is responsible for maintaining, developing, and troubleshooting equipment housed in the QSF, which includes photolithography, deposition, etch, and metrology tools as well as a furnace core and range of cryogenic equipment. Rachel also works on development and troubleshooting of the Confocal Raman and PL Spectrometer housed in QSF.
